Strategic Plan

District Strategic Plan

In October, 2005, District 6710 Rotarians were sent a comprehensive survey designed to elicit opinions and knowledge levels concerning the functions of a Rotary District.  Using the results of this survey, a “summit” team representing a cross section of Rotarians met at Rough River Resort on January 6 & 7, 2006.  This team drafted a strategic plan.  It contained ten (10) strategies.  They are as follow in abbreviated form:

  1. Define “success and effectiveness”
  2. Capture and save the essence of district records
  3. Help organizational leaders
  4. Promote available resources
  5. Membership goals
  6. Provide resources to district
  7. Written plan for financial support of TRF
  8. Written communication and image plan
  9. Premier youth programs
  10. Revised district committee organization

The purpose of a strategic plan is to provide a sort of mapping framework which will serve to keep the services of the district on a steady course of improvement and in a continuous direction agreed upon by all.

The Mission of our District 6710 is to provide the framework to maintain and strengthen an effective association of District Rotary organizations through empowering committed leadership operating within the constitution, bylaws and objectives of Rotary International to support service above self, fellowship and world peace.

Following the “summit” team meeting, Action Teams were formed in all Areas of the District.  These teams fleshed out various goals and action plans to achieve these goals under each of the strategies.  These teams met with District leadership in September, 2006 to deliver their reports.

Since that time, various committees and district leaders have been fulfilling their duties with the strategies, goals and action plans in mind.  We have seen a reorganization of District committees to better meet the various functions of the District.  We have a premier youth program with RYLA returning and a strong Rotaract organization being steadily built.  We have begun District archives to preserve valuable history.  We have a speakers’ bureau for the use of our clubs. Our web site gets better each year.

Some of the goals and plans of the strategies have not yet been met.  We continue to fall behind in our support of the Rotary Foundation.  We need to constantly improve communications within the district.  But District 6710 IS improving and our clubs are the better for it.

Some time during the beginning of the next Rotary year, 2008-2009, a summit team will be reconvened.  Once again the team will be a cross section of District 6710 Rotarians.  We will review the ten (10) strategies for value and relevance.  We will renew the strategic plan for the next three (3) years and our committees and leaders will be given a revised road map toward improvement and continuity.
