Clubs Recognized at 2010 District Conference

The 2010 Rotary District Conference in Santa Claus, Indiana saw clubs in District 6710 recognized for outstanding achievements related to the Avenues of Service as well as to giving to the Rotary Foundation.  Clubs were recognized in four categories based on club size:  Division I (up to 30 members); Division II (31-79); Division III (80-140); and Division IV (150+).

For Best Public Relations Program, Division I winner, Bedford, placed a full page ad in the local newspaper to honor Rotary’s 105th birthday.  Division II winner, Cadiz, launched a new website, and also receives daily publicity via the local radio station through public announcements during the 5PM "Good News" Break. The station plays previously recorded news pertaining to community service activities supported by Cadiz Rotary.  They also promote many activities in the local paper.  Division III winner, Murray, has had an extensive number of articles in the local paper, and has also sponsored ads in the Murray magazine.

For Best Community Service Project,
Division I winner Grayson County hosted the Heroes Dinner- honoring local police, EMS, firefighters, and National Guard.  In Division II the winner was Cadiz for their project Rotary Bucks- a voucher system that allow residents over 60 to go to City Hall and receive the Rotary Bucks to purchase fresh vegetables sold at the farmers market.   The program has been successful in getting people with disabilities, welfare recipients, and displaced workers to purchase healthy food that they might not otherwise have the funds to purchase.  In Division III the winner was Frankfort for their annual bell ringing with the Salvation Army project.

For Best Vocational Service Project, the winner in Division I was Muhlenberg County for the Taste of Muhlenberg, an event that brings together many local businesses and vendors to showcase what the community has to offer.  Division II's winner was Cadiz for Sponsorship of Trigg Co High School Interact Club.

For Best International Service Project,
the winner in Division II was Prospect/Goshen for the $100 Solution, a program in which students are given $100 and challenged to use it to make a difference in the lives of others around the world.  The Division III winner was Frankfort for their Honduras Mission in which a local group traveled to Tegusagalpa for a week of service to distribute water purification, dental check ups, etc. The club donated $1500 to purchase 30 hand held water purification systems, each of which can purify water for approximately 15 individuals.
