Clubs Recognized at 2010 District Conference
The 2010 Rotary District Conference in Santa Claus, Indiana saw clubs in District 6710 recognized for outstanding achievements related to the Avenues of Service as well as to giving to the Rotary Foundation. Clubs were recognized in four categories based on club size: Division I (up to 30 members); Division II (31-79); Division III (80-140); and Division IV (150+).
For Best Public Relations Program, Division I winner, Bedford,
placed a full page ad
in the local newspaper to honor Rotary’s 105th
birthday. Division II winner, Cadiz, launched a new website, and
also receives daily publicity via the local radio station through
public announcements during the 5PM "Good News" Break. The station
plays previously recorded news pertaining to community service
activities
supported by Cadiz Rotary. They also
promote many activities in the local paper. Division III winner,
Murray, has had
an extensive number of articles in the local
paper, and has also sponsored ads in the Murray magazine.
For Best Community Service Project, Division I winner Grayson
County hosted the Heroes Dinner- honoring
local police, EMS, firefighters, and National Guard. In Division II the winner
was Cadiz for their project Rotary Bucks- a voucher
system that allow residents over 60 to go to City Hall and receive the
Rotary
Bucks to purchase fresh vegetables sold at the farmers market. The program has been successful in getting
people with disabilities, welfare recipients, and displaced workers to
purchase
healthy food that they might not otherwise have the funds to purchase.
In Division III the winner was Frankfort for their annual bell
ringing with the Salvation Army
project.
For Best Vocational Service Project, the winner in Division I was Muhlenberg
County for the Taste of Muhlenberg, an event
that brings together many local businesses and vendors to showcase what
the
community has to offer. Division II's winner was Cadiz for Sponsorship of Trigg Co High
School Interact Club.
For Best International Service Project, the winner in Division II was
Prospect/Goshen for the $100 Solution, a program in
which students are
given $100 and challenged to use it to make a difference in the lives of
others
around the world. The Division III winner was Frankfort for their Honduras
Mission in which a local group traveled to Tegusagalpa for a week of
service to distribute water purification, dental check ups, etc. The
club donated $1500 to purchase 30 hand held water purification systems,
each of which can purify water for approximately 15 individuals.

The RI Presidential Citation Award was bestowed upon the following clubs: Prospect/Goshen, Lawrenceburg, Cadiz, Murray, Madisonville, Springfield, and the Interact Club of Trigg County High School. The prestigious Governor's Club of Distinction was achieved by only one club this year, the Rotary Club of Murray.

 Additionally, the following clubs were honored as Star Clubs having achieved $100 per capita giving to The Rotary Foundation: South Oldham County, Daviess County, Brandenburg, and Campbellsville.
The Global Foundation Award, recognizing not only contributions but TRF program involvement, was achieved by only one club, the Rotary Club of Murray.
Additionally, Rotarian Ed Kalmey and his wife, Judy, were recognized as Major Donors to The Rotary Foundation.

Best in District Finally, the top award overall recognizing the Best Club in the District was awarded to the Rotary Club of Murray. The Murray Club received the Centennial Bell to keep for one year.
