District 6710 now accepting applications for Team Leader and
Team Members Outbound Team to Germany June 4-July 3, 2011
Travel Destination: Germany, District 1810
Germany with its 83
Million inhabitants is made up of 16 states. District 1810 is in
Northrhine-Westfalia and it has 19 Million inhabitants. The biggest city is
Cologne with 1.5 Million inhabitants. It is home to BAYER pharmacies (Aspirin)
and also to FORD Germany (all German Ford cars are produced in Cologne).
It also has the Cologne Cathedral, the largest Cathedral in Germany, and
also the headquarters of German Karneval. Click here for more
information on Cologne.
The Capital of Northrhine-Westfalia is Duesseldorf, just a bit north of
Cologne. It is the headquarters of Thyssen-Krupp and Mannesmann. Click here for more
information on Duesseldorf.
The GSE team would tour the district and also see places like Trier which is
2500 years old, still a city with more than 200,000 inhabitants. Then there is
Bonn, Capital before reunification and of course the river Rhine with all its
old castles along the river. Always on the program for the GSE-team
coming from abroad is a visit to Berlin. Berlin is 700 km to the East and it is
always fun to go there with the German high speed trains ICE, that goes at a
speed of 370 km/h (222 mph).
Team Leader and Member Applications
The application deadline for the 2011 GSE to Germany is September 30 with interviews scheduled
for October 31 for the Team Leader and November 14 for the Team Members.
Those Rotarians applying for Team Leader must be available for both dates.
A GSE Team Leader is selected from among
applicants. Applicants Must:
Be
a U.S. Citizen
Be an experienced Rotarian, well informed on the
USA and Rotary
It is the
Leader’s duty to help the team prepare for a meaningful exchange. This
is accomplished by meeting regularly with the Team (this is essential
for building team spirit and self confidence), guiding them in preparing
the visual program (Power Point) that will be presented at the Rotary
meetings in their host country and acquaint them with Rotary
International’s purpose and goals. The Leader needs to act as
advisor/counselor when the need arises and act as liaison between the
Team and the Host Clubs.
GSE Team Members are selected from among
applicants. Applicants Must:
Be a U.S. Citizen
Age range between 25 and 40
Be employed full-time
Have worked in current career field at least two years at time of application
The Rotary Foundation's Group Study Exchange (GSE) program is a unique cultural
and vocational exchange opportunity for businesspeople and professionals between
the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers. The program
provides travel grants for teams to exchange visits in paired areas of
different countries. For four to six weeks, team members experience the host
country's culture and institutions, observe how their vocations are practiced
abroad, develop personal and professional relationships, and exchange ideas.
In a typical four-week tour, applicants participate in five full days of
vocational visits, 15 to 20 club presentations, 10 to 15 formal visits and
social events, two to three days at the district conference, three to four
hours per day of cultural and site tours, and three to four hours per day of
free time with host families.
